Kolkata woke up to a sharp dip in temperature on Saturday after heavy overnight rain and thunderstorms swept through the city. The minimum temperature, which stood at 25°C on Friday morning, fell to 19.2°C the next day—4.4 degrees below normal—marking a significant change in weather conditions. The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain throughout the day, with several South Bengal districts likely to experience similar weather over the next few days.
According to the Alipore Meteorological Center, the temperature is expected to continue falling for the next two days before rising again by three to five degrees. Rain and thunderstorms began on Friday evening and intensified overnight, bringing torrential showers, lightning and strong winds reaching 50–60 kmph, disrupting normal life in multiple parts of Kolkata.
The impact of the storm extended across South Bengal, triggering damage in several districts. In Malda’s English Bazar, a portion of the roof at Netaji Municipality Market collapsed during the storm, injuring two people. Local authorities have begun assessing damage and monitoring weather conditions as instability persists across the region.
